Know your options for Flood Insurance in Texas
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, only 17 percent of homeowners in the eight counties most directly effected when Hurricane Harvey wrecked havoc on Southeastern Texas had flood insurance policies in place.
Standard homeowners policies may cover wind damage, but do not cover damage from flooding, leaving the majority of homeowners unprotected and uninsured flood survivors left with little financial help to rebuild their homes and lives.
Whether or not you are located within a flood zone, you do have the option to purchase flood insurance. There are policies designed specifically for people who are not required to have flood insurance by their mortgage company, do not reside within a FEMA designated flood zone, but would prefer to have coverage in place, just in case. Many of these Preferred Rate Policies (PRP) cost as little as $1.00/day, and give you that extra little piece of mind.
Other flood insurance options are available too! There are several carriers we partner with that have coverage options comparable to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and beyond. Their underwriting methods, called “Modeling” can assess the risk of flooding at your address with the use of the latest technology in the industry. These policies also tend to offer inexpensive annual premiums, all while saving you hundreds on the purchase of an elevation certificate and half the wait time to take effect.
